A chat backup file takes very less memory space in your smartphone or cloud storage and can be restored very easily in a few clicks only. This tutorial will show you how to backup & restore your social chats from WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal Messengers. So without further ado, let's get started.

How to backup your WhatsApp chats

WhatsApp is probably one of the most used online messaging platforms for mobile as well as desktop devices. You can get it on the play store, app store, and windows store for free. For your info, you can chat with your friends via text messages, emojis, voice/video calls, and also send/receive pictures, documents, videos, locations, etc.

Follow the given instructions to take a backup of your WhatsApp chats:
  1. Open 'WhatsApp' on your smartphone device
  2. Tap on "3-dot" and go to "Settings"
  3. Now again tap "Chats" menu
  4. Select "Chat backup"
  5. Click on the green color "BACK UP" button. (This WhatsApp backup file will be saved on your internal storage > WhatsApp > Backups folder).
Additionally, you also have an option to save the WhatsApp chats backup into Google drive. To do that you just need to go to the same WhatsApp backup settings (WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Chat backup) and add your Google account. Also, to restore the backup, all you need just tap on the restore chats option while setting up your WhatsApp account on a new smartphone.

How to backup your chats on Telegram

Telegram is another very popular cross-platform messaging service. There are millions of people use this platform to share and receive text messages, emojis, pictures, videos, documents, and other types of media files. 

How to backup chats in Telegram messenger:

Unfortunately, you can not backup telegram chats with your smartphones right now. However, for desktop users, it works fine. Here's how:
  1. Open 'Telegram' app on your desktop
  2. Click to open Settings
  3. Click on 'Export Telegram Data'
  4. Now choose the directory where you want to keep the backup file.

How to backup your chats in Signal App

The recently launched Signal end-to-end encrypted messenger has been gained a lot of followers in the past few months after the new WhatsApp privacy policy. It can be used for encrypted text messaging, voice/video calling, sharing media files, and more.

Unlike WhatsApp and Telegram, the Signal app backup the chats in encrypted form which means no other person can access the content inside the backup file without having a key or also known as passcode. Here's how to backup signal chats:
  1. Open the 'Signal' app on your smartphone
  2. Tap on "3-dot" from the top right corner
  3. Then, tap on "Chats and Media"
  4. Tap on "Chat Backups"
  5. Here, tap on "Turn On" and to then, "Enable Backups" (Here's you can take the screenshot of the given passcode, you'll be asked to enter these passcodes to restores all your chats).
  6. Lastly, allow the storage permission to Signal app to access the files from your device then, choose the backup location and tap on 'Use this folder" to end this process.
