10 Tips to Improve Programming Skills for Beginners

It seems very difficult when you start learning a programming language at the beginning. Most of the time, you'll be stuck at some point and try to get away from programming. And, you can't get a better job with only basic programming knowledge.

So, if you're stuck at the beginning or somewhere in programming, follow these 10 tips to improve your programming skills. Also read13 Best Online Platforms to Learn How to Code

Here are my 10 Tips to Improve Programming Skills

1. Set a Goal

There must be a goal or purpose for learning a programming language to boost your productivity as a developer.

Goals Like:
  • Website Designer
  • Get a job
  • Graphics Designer
  • Video Games Developer
  • Software Engineer
  • And more...
It has so many benefits. Setting up goals always keeps you motivated, gives a clear path for your journey, and helps to reach your aim very quickly. Also, it's very important that you don't change your goals in the middle of your journey.

The basic idea is first, you should work on some small project goals and archive them in a given time. For instance, if you're learning a programming language such as Java and want to be a Video games developer then first set a goal of small projects like Snake game or Tik-Tac-Toe and finish them off yourself within one or two months. Once you archive the small goals that will keep you motivated and encourage you to proceed further.

2. Understand Logic

Programming is all about logic. Once, you understand the logic it seems a lot easier to work with programming. When I say Logic that doesn't mean "AND", "OR" or "NOT" boolean logic gates, but you should also understand the working process of a programming language such as how a program gets executed in the compiler, syntaxes, variables life span in a program, etc. For instance, there can more than one way to do the same thing, however, you must choose the most efficient way.

Once, you understand the logic in one programming language that goes the same with other programming languages.

3. Reading Books

The best way to building logic in your mind through reading books. In books, There are such explicit information and some tips-tricks that you'll find nowhere outside. Also, when you read books and solve many programming tutorials, eventually it increases your senses and problem-solving skills. It's one of the best ways to improve your programming skills.

4. Try Online Platforms

There are many online platforms that teach how to code and how to improve your programming skills as well. If you want to improve your additional skills (such as Algorithm, Data structure, Competitive Programming, etc), these online platforms will teach you everything you need to know.

5. Spend More Time in Programming

Programming takes time. No one can learn a programming language in just two or three days. I've seen many beginners who just try to learn programming language in one or two days well, that's not gonna work. You need to spend as much time as you can afford in programming. Moreover, you should have a consistent time schedule of at least 2-3 hours a day.

6. Don't Get Scared Of Errors

Errors are too common things in programming and once you learn how to solve errors in programming you'll be doing great. Try to solve errors by yourself and if you can't then search it by its name on Google. Read MoreHow to find and fix programming errors

7. Try to Always Write Codes in Classes and Object

Classes and Objects are very important topics in object-oriented programming such as C++. Java, Python, and more. If you still don't know about classes and objects, read it out. You always try to write codes in classes and objects form through this way you can implement OOP's concept in your codes and perform so many amazing things to your program.

8. Learn Algorithms and Data Structure as well

Learning Additional knowledge gives you advantages in getting a better job. Topics like Algorithms, Data structures, Time Complexity, are very important to make an efficient program.

9. Try to Read and Understand Other's Code

If you really want to be a good programmer, always read the code of a better programmer. When you read other's code, it teaches so many things that you can implement in your program as well.

10. Do Not Repeat Yourself

If you want to be a good programmer, do not repeat yourself. More clearly, you should repeat the same mistakes again and again. Also, do not learn the same topics several times if you've cleared it out earlier. Pick another topic that you don't know then clear all the concepts and move to the next topic. I found it a very efficient & faster method to learn anything.

Final Thought: Practice! Practice! Practice!

There are three ways to master a programming language or anything else: Practice, Practice, and Practice. Keep practicing on a consistent schedule and execute your mission.
